EXHIBIT 001 · PERSONAL COMPUTING
Hello, Macintosh.
A little computer. A whole new way to work.
Macintosh 128K · System 1.0 · powered by Infinite Mac. Requires internet and a mouse/keyboard for the best experience.
If the screen stays blank, open the original system in a new tab ↗. The GE97 recreation works independently.
Double-click icons, or use the buttons above. Touch: tap an icon twice. File → Save exports a text file or PNG. Your writing is saved in this browser.
ORIGINAL SOFTWARE
A system you can explore.
The Original Macintosh mode embeds Infinite Mac’s Macintosh 128K emulator with Infinite Mac’s preserved System 1.0 disk (including its added Welcome document). Emulation by Infinite Mac (Mihai Parparita), powered by Mini vMac. Original programs run inside that service; GE97 supplies the surrounding exhibit. The local recreation is a separate experience.
Original-mode changes may be lost when you leave. The original session stays loaded when you switch to the recreation. Closing this exhibit ends its session.
WHAT YOU’RE USING
A reconstruction you can use.
The GE97 recreation is a modern browser simulation inspired by the original 1984 Macintosh: a 512 × 342 monochrome desktop, a mouse, menus and documents. It does not run an Apple ROM, System software, MacWrite or MacPaint.
The writing and drawing tools are new implementations with a deliberately small feature set. Exports, browser draft storage, touch controls and responsive scaling are modern conveniences. Window behavior, fonts and icons approximate the originals.
FROM THE ARCHIVE
Follow the evidence.
Historical scope: the original English-language Macintosh in 1984. Desk accessories can appear alongside an application; MacWrite and MacPaint switch between one another here.
