In 1996 and 1997 multidisciplinary teams of undergraduate students, post-graduate students and staff from the UK and Uganda were assembled to study the impact of humans on the biodiversity and ecology of Mount Elgon National Park, which lies on the Uganda-Kenya border. In addition to studying Anthropogenic stress from cultivation, grazing and tourism, the teams took on a number of secondary projects, including surveys of bird species and small mammals, and an examination of "sustainable tourism" approaches to use of the reserve. Perseus has collected both online original texts and annotated English translations, often with important historical commentaries. It provides several different types of searches, including a unique function that will search for Greek words the definitions of which contain a designated English word. In addition to textual material, there are also images of Greek art, coins, and artifacts, as well as a sophisticated atlas of the Mediterranean region (Perseus Atlas Project). The Truman Library Website, hosted by the University of Texas, has placed online digitized and text versions of the order as well as a chronology of events leading to the order. For those headed overseas and in need of business contacts or resources, this site has much to offer. Though still under construction in many areas, the Pronett international business directory has a great deal of immediately accessible information: choose the region, country, and business area of your choice and draw up a list of contacts. Each Web page that comes up during your search has at the top a handy dictionary (French/German/Italian/Japanese/English) and a nice graphic of the globe in equal-area projection, but no header. Don't be dismayed by this; simply scroll down and examine your choices. You will move through a series of menus to help you narrow down your choices until you come to a list of home pages of vendors, consultants, or businesses. Britannica Online has made Merriam-Webster's WWWebster Dictionary available for searching on the web. Each retrieved word is accompanied by pronunciation, usage, grammatical function, a brief etymology, and of course, definition. A thesaurus can be queried for similar words, hypertext cross references are available, misspellings return suggested spellings, and there are hypertext links to illustrations. The search system supports internal wildcards (single and multiple letter) and right hand truncation searching. There is also an extensive pronunciation guide. The National Recommended Water Quality Criteria is a compilation of the new recommended criteria for 157 pollutants. The report discusses the origins of the water quality criteria and how they are used, and offers the criteria in tables with extensive footnotes. The second item documents the experiences of seventeen drinking water suppliers who draw from lakes, reservoirs, and rivers in their efforts to manage and protect their sources.
