The system is simple to install and works quite well. Although minor bugs are noticeable, the system is complete enough to allow, for example, the remote use of many popular Windows p

You may as well admit that although you appreciate the beauty of the small snub icosicosidodecahedron, you aren't as clear as you might be on the theory behind it. This site can help; here you can view over 850 polyhedra (three dimensional objects bounded by polygons) in VRML format (there are several VRML plug-ins available for the major browsers, and instructions are provided on the site). Models can be manipulated by the viewer in a variety of ways, depending on the software used. And because this site intends to educate visitors about the theory of polyhedra, there are exercises to accompany the models. For those interested in a more hands-on approach, there are instructions for making paper models of selected polyhedra.

Visionary--A Dictionary of Terminology in Vision Research [frames] (1997)

http://cns-web.bu.edu/pub/laliden/WWW/Visionary/Visionary.html

Lars Liden of Boston University's Department of Cognitive and Neural Systems produced this browsable online dictionary of over 350 terms related to human and animal vision, from Amblyopia to Zollner Illusion, and including "biological and machine vision, visual psychophysics, visual neuroscience and other related fields." Entries offer brief descriptions with occasional graphics and hot-linked cross references to related terms. There are also appendices of specialized terms, including one on the Cortical Areas, which maps each definition to its location on an outline of a Rhesus monkey brain. [AG]

http://www.worldofescher.com/

Visit the World of Escher, a fascinating educationally based site that explores the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher's unique and often impossible work. From an early age, Escher was fascinated by repetition and infinite patterns. He explored with great enthusiasm the regular division of the plane in his tessellation or symmetry drawings linking math and art. Impossible buildings, spatial illusions, perspective drawings, woodcuts, and lithographs have fascinated young and old for more than half a century. A great teachers' resource. Is there another artist that links math and art like Escher? Bring your students into the magical world of Escher. Enter your own tessellation in the on-line tessellation contest, win prizes, certificates and possibly an entry into our Hall of Fame. Opinions and addition information on Escher are welcome for inclusion in the site.
